I read an article in the Daily Yomiuri today, stating that President Bush gave a speech at the aniversery memorial of Pearl Harbor, and didn't happen to mention Japan's role in it. This was a gesture of "friendliness" to the Japanese government for their involvement in the rebuilding of Iraq. It was also a big fat middle finger to the American soldiers who died in World War II. What's next, is he going to forget to mention ze Germans when he gives a speech to surviving Holocaust victims?
Yes, what happened was in the past. But it helps no one if you leave out the important details. I don't care if the Japanese Government would be offended by being mentioned at the Pearl Harbor anniversary. That's their problem, if they can't stand being reminded of their definitive major fuck-up. I hope that our future presidents have the balls to help everyone remember the various days of infamy of all countries around the world, especially our own.
