I haven't touched Linux since Ubuntu 7, but recently, a good friend recommended Linux Mint. I think I'll try it out and see how far things have progressed.

I tried Ubuntu about 1 1/2 years ago and was thoroughly unimpressed; I used to use SunOS and Solaris back in 1995 and was happy with them at the time. But the idea of a 40-year old operating system re-packaged for the modern age as THE Windows alternative doesn't seem that reasonable. Nonetheless, some of the Linux distros have some definite utility and please let us know if Mint is any good. Thanks!
I got Linux Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 installed on my girlfriends laptop. It works very nicely.
ipod support has been improved a lot.
I think that the thing I like the most about linux is that you can copy songs to your ipod (like any other OS) but also and mainly from the ipod to your computer with each files having a proper file name structured into the singer/album folder.
I was in awe. Proprietary suck. It's not about Linux being based on an old technology or something (windows is still using NT at its core) it's about freedom
Thanks for the comments, guys, I'll definitely let you know how this distro works out for me.
Damn, Nico, I didn't even know you were back in Thailand.. Welcome back!!
